Technical resumes should have a lot of technical jargon. If a recruiter tells you a resume is too technical, change recruiters. Technical jargon creates good keywords that specialty recruiters will find heartwarming. A well written technical resume “lights up” in a search if proper keywords are used. RSO or Resume Search Optimization is a technique that dictates “keyword” placement throughout the resume that increases your chances of being seen by robotic search engines and consequently by recruiters.
Every single large company and many small companies are using application tracking systems (ATS) that use complicated algorithms to search and sort the right resumes. If your resume is not properly optimized there is a chance that your resume will never be found or read. You will never get a callback.
Traditional resume writers who do not know about RSO will tell you to write a one page resume plus a cover letter and cripple your ability to be found by modern recruiters.

When writing a resume please remember that at the recruiter who will be reading your resume will also be reading hundreds if not thousands of other resumes. You want to make your resume as readable as possible. Usually a good combination is Arial font 10-12. It’s easy on the eyes and professional.

Many people are searching for the answer as to why they don’t get a call back after submitting a resume. The answer is simple:
“Follow up”
When I post a job, I usually receive several dozen resumes, but I only call 1 or 2. This is because most people are not a fit. If you want the job, call the HR recruiter and find out why you haven’t heard back about your resume. Sometimes you will not get a straight answer, but if you happen on a good recruiter he may give you a mountain of useful information and even an interview.
Recruiters need your resume to align to the job description to a Tee or they will not be able to sell you to the hiring manager. If you want a call back, make sure your resume is clear as to why you are a good fit. This should NOT be in the cover letter, although if you want to write that there as well it won’t hurt; this information must be in the resume. It must be crystal clear to the recruiter what you can do not from your objective, but from the actual job responsibilities.
If you area applying for an Business Systems Analyst role and all your titles are Financial Business Analyst, you may not get a call back.
